Documentation of 9th Stakeholder Session 4th EU MRS Week

The 9th Stakeholder Session during the 4th EU MRS week on April 26th, 2023, organised by the Coordinators of EUSDR Priority Area 8 Competitiveness of enterprises, Carmen Hawkins and Nirvana Kapitan Butkovic, concerned the topic “Development of resilient value chains and their impact on a sustainable energy supply and its energy saving potentials – with examples from the fields of circular economy and bioeconomy“.

The experts Dr. Gerd Meier zu Köcker, Prof. Dieter Hertweck, Mateja Dermastia, Erik Sundhöj and Marko Mitrovič, from the fields of research, science and economy, discussed their ideas and concerns on the topic. The session enabled an interesting exchange of know-how and offered closer insight into current developments as well as existing tools supporting the development of resilient value chains. Moreover, different approaches on how to ensure the supply of energy, food and goods were displayed, aiming to encourage the exchange of best practices in order to promote future cooperation on a European level.

The experts agreed that it is of immense important to stimulate demand for circular industry solutions. Some trailblazing technologies already exist, but need to be implemented in practice. Thereby, international cooperation is of immense importance. In order to evolve resilient value chains and viable energy supply mechanisms to enhance the sustainable transformation in the future, “fast action is required now”.

A more detailed summary of the Session as well as more insight into the concerns and approaches pointed out by the participating experts can be retrieved here. Summary MRS week 9th Stakeholder Session
