Main Objectives
To bring together the major regional and transnational stakeholders and their complementary resources, systems and skills – supported by instruments such as digital innovation hubs, digital service platforms and value chains – with the clear goal of generating new digital business models, products, processes or services.
The WG Digital Danube’s actions aim to establish an innovative digital ecosystem in the Danube Region in order to support SMEs in tackling the challenges of a digitalised world. This digital ecosystem will enable collaborative innovation among different stakeholders by combining complementary resources, systems and support. The clear goal is to generate domain-based data lakes, new business models, products, features, processes and services. The following target was set:
Target 2: Establishment of at least two Trans-Danube Digital Value Chains

Planned Activities
- Establishment of a Trans-Danube Digital Service Platform for Digital Innovation Hub (DIH) managers along with consultancy services for DIH foundation, tested on five pilots
- Establishment of at least two regional and two Trans-Danube digital value chains to make use of regional peculiarities and transnational potential.
The set target was achieved through various methods and approaches:
- Establishment of a transnational service platform in the Danube region for developing innovative business models in the field of the circular economy as part of the Interreg Danube Region flagship project DECIDE. Modelling of five digital value chains in the areas of packaging, textiles, batteries, food and smart city (https://interreg-danube.eu/projects/decide).
- Wine configurator and store for a Romanian wine producer
- AI-based consulting platform for fastening systems for a tape manufacturer in Baden-Württemberg
- IoT-based smart city service in Croatia, where smart devices for a connected city were
